Summary
At the end of the thirteenth century Guyart Desmoulins completed his Bible historiale, which was during the fourteenth century a succès fou with the nobility and the (very) wealthy. It has been argued several times by Prof. C.C. de Bruin that this translation was used as a model for the Middle Dutch Historiebijbel van 1361. In this article we argue that there is no evidence whatsoever for this hypothesis, but that the Dutch translator was actually influenced by the Latin tradition, and by his great predecessor, Jacob van Maerlant.
